About me

Hi, I am Harriet (芷竹). When I was 19, I moved from the historical city of Nanjing, China, to pursue a degree in Human Computer Interaction Design, and a Minor Computer Science at UC San Diego, California. Today, I am a product designer living in Southern California with my partner, and two cats Bert & Ernie.

Why Design?

My academic experiences greatly influenced me as an evidence-driven designer. I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in a cognition psychology lab, where I conducted academic literature research, recruited participants, and ran experiments.

Then, I was a student TA for Intro to Statistics and Data Manipulation in R, where I also explored my interests in infographics, analytical programming, and teaching.

After my American Express CS internship, during which I asked for a UX Design project on top of my CS project, for the first time I was empowered to look beyond a screen, and connect with users and product owners, I pivoted to Product Design, and never looked back.

Outside of work…

I analyze and write about the cultural and technological foundation of classic and modern Science Fiction. I leave you here with my favorite quote from Star Trek: “Compassion: that's the one things no machine ever had. Maybe it's the one thing that keeps men ahead of them.”
